A Better Partnership

White Collar Criminal Defense and Investigations

Warner’s “Better Partnership” is uniquely suited to help clients stay on the right side of the law.  Our truly unusual law firm structure and history promote interdisciplinary collaboration with our colleagues who are subject-matter experts in areas impacted by government oversight. Most importantly, we take the time to watch and predict enforcement priorities. We understand that our clients want to be responsible corporate citizens so we make that our top priority.

Our compliance and criminal defense practice team provides a wide array of pre-charge, preventative services, including performance of internal investigations and compliance audits.  We count among our attorneys some of the state and country’s foremost specialists in almost every area of substantive law, like false claims and anti-kickback statutes, health care, consumer protection, securities regulation, environmental protection, immigration and product regulation.

The Group also enjoys good relationships of respect and trust with local prosecuting authorities, both state and federal.  This makes us uniquely suited to: (1) know and predict local enforcement priorities; (2) identify and solve institutional processes and events before they become compliance or criminal problems; and (3) negotiate and provide investigation reports to prosecutors, if necessary, with credibility.  We take great pride and care in our professional relationships and reputation within the local legal communities where we operate.  This translates to a quality of advice and representation that cannot be matched by even expert-level practitioners based in other jurisdictions.

The Group has worked on the following recent representative matters, among others:

  • Conducted internal investigation at banking institution as part of response to regulatory agency inquiry
  • Conducted several internal investigations related to claims of sexual and other employee harassment at employers in manufacturing/engineering and professional service firms
  • Conducted investigation for client related to theft claim by its customer
  • Assisted with safety compliance audit at manufacturing facility
  • Counseled clients concerning the immigration consequences of criminal convictions
  • Defended companies and individuals in state and federal court criminal prosecutions, negotiated favorable pleas or alternate resolution when that was available, and provided aggressive trial defense when it became necessary
  • Represented criminal defendants on appeal in the Sixth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal
  • Filed an application for writ of certiorari in the United States Supreme Court regarding a criminal sentencing issue
