Madelaine Lane, a partner with Warner Norcross + Judd, has been selected for a 2024 Warrior Award by Sacred Beginnings, a Grand Rapids nonprofit that provides street outreach and safe housing to those who have been trafficked.
The Warrior Award honors individuals who work relentlessly to support victims of human trafficking and combat sexual exploitation in the community. Lane and other award recipients will be recognized Jan. 26 during a special event at the Goei Center in Grand Rapids.
In recognizing Lane, Sacred Beginnings noted she is recognized as one of the go-to lawyers in Michigan when clients need to create programs focused on sexual abuse prevention and detection training. She also serves on the Sacred Beginnings board.
Lane led a pro bono team of Warner attorneys who helped secure what is believed to be Michigan’s first gubernatorial pardon of a survivor of human trafficking. The pardon cleared the path for Leslie F. King to seek to become a licensed social worker by expunging her criminal record, which included sentences for shoplifting, larceny, assault, prostitution, narcotics possession and other crimes she committed while being trafficked.
King founded and now leads Sacred Beginnings, which is the only survivor-led, peer-mentored program in Michigan for those who have been sexually exploited and trafficked.
At Warner, Lane is an accomplished white collar criminal defense attorney who assists clients with the right guidance just when they need it. She has extensive experience working in several sectors, including higher education, automotive, health care, finance and agriculture, among others. A fierce advocate, she comes to life in the courtroom, routinely trying and winning cases in both state and federal court.
