Webinar — A Return to the Earned Sick Time Act and Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act as Originally Adopted

You’re invited to attend Warner’s webinar titled “A Return to the Earned Sick Time Act and Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act as Originally Adopted,” on July 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Warner partners, Rob Dubault, Allyson Terpsma and Karen VanderWerff will discuss the impact to employers of the recent Michigan Court of Claims’ decision to void the 2018 amendments to the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) and Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act (IWOWA) and reinstate both laws as they were originally adopted.

Unless it is reversed on appeal, the court’s decision will have an impact on all Michigan employers who will need to review and likely amend their paid sick time policies, and possibly their wage scales. The ESTA now applies to all employers, not just those with 50+ employees, as in the previously amended law. Employers subject to the previously amended (and now voided) law must now evaluate how to mesh what they have been doing with the new requirements, and employers who were formerly not subject to the previously amended law will need to understand all the new rights, benefits and prohibitions that accompany the ESTA. The IWOWA imposes a $12 minimum wage as of January 1, 2022, and requires tipped workers to receive at least 80% of that wage, with the tip credit to be completely eliminated in 2024.

Warner’s Employment News From the Law Shanty covered this topic in a recent video. To view the video, click here.

Warner is monitoring this rapidly changing situation closely and will have updated information to share with you during this webinar. We encourage you to submit questions ahead of time when you register.
