The PUMP Act – Creating Reasonable Accommodations for Mothers at Work

The Law Shanty thanks everyone for attending Warner’s 2023 HR Seminar last week. We had a record turnout with lots of meaningful discussions! Today, we are back with a new episode featuring attorneys Steve Palazzolo and Kelsey Dame on the topic of the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections for Nursing Mothers Act (“PUMP Act”). The PUMP Act was enacted under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 and requires employers to extend rights to employees who are nursing to receive break time to pump, along with a private space that is shielded from intrusion, coworkers and the public. Steve and Kelsey address the length and frequency of these pumping breaks, employee pay, the space that is required to meet nursing mothers’ needs and any exceptions to these requirements.
