Rich Bouma has represented business entities, including health care providers, for over 30 years. He serves as counsel to numerous privately held companies on an array of legal matters including organizational and financial structure, transition planning and joint venture participation. Most of his clients are established businesses, although he also regularly represents start-ups. His clients come from a variety of different service and manufacturing industries, including health care, commercial printing, farming, restaurants and food services, advertising and engineering.

He has represented service and manufacturing businesses in numerous purchase, sale and merger transactions and joint ventures, as well as contract arrangements and governance and operational issues.

  • Frequently represents physician groups negotiating with hospitals and large national companies, establishing outpatient clinics (such as cyberknife facilities and dialysis clinics) or other joint ventures.
  • Completed provider contract negotiations for managed care organization and also on behalf of hospitals, group practices and surgical centers.
  • Regularly advises community hospitals, physicians and other medical service providers concerning Stark II compliance, federal and Michigan anti-fraud and anti-kickback statutes, and tax-exemption issues (including tax-exempt bonds).
  • Successfully represents physician groups and individual physicians in separation-of-practice negotiations.
