Warner and the Association of Corporate Counsel Will Co-Host Data Solutions Fall Symposium

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP and the Association of Corporate Counsel will co-host a Data Solutions Fall Symposium on Friday, Oct. 23 in Grand Rapids.

The half-day program will feature updates and best practices on records information management, data security and privacy and eDiscovery issues.  It will begin with registration at 8:15 a.m. at the Kroc Community Center, 2500 S. Division Ave. SW and wrap up after a networking lunch at 1 p.m.

The first session at 9 a.m. will be a panel discussion focused on “Amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures,” which will become effective Dec. 1.  The FRCP panel will feature the Hon. Paul L. Maloney of the Western District Court of Michigan, along with Andrea Bernard and Scott Carvo, both partners at the firm.  B. Jay Yelton III, a partner who co-chairs the firm’s Data Solutions Practice Group, will moderate the panel.

During the first round of breakout sessions, attendees can choose from:

  • “eDiscovery: Updating Your eDiscovery Best Practices and Procedures,” which will focus on how legal departments need to modify their eDiscovery practices in light of the changes to the FRCP.  Yelton and Lindsay Chaffin will co-present.
  • “Privacy/Security: Planning for Security Breaches” will provide practical advice on preparing a breach response plan, risk assessments and documentation.  Brian Lennon and Madelaine Lane will jointly present.
  • “Records Information Management: Social Media Policies and Procedures” will address sticky questions for HR and legal professionals when it comes to social media.  Kevin McCarthy and Ken Coleman will co-present.

Attendees can select from the following sessions during the second round of breakouts:

  • “eDiscovery: How to Utilize Proportionality and Cost Shifting Strategies,” which will look at what legal departments can – and can’t – do when it comes to reining in the scope of discovery.  Charles Ash and Adam Cefai will jointly present.
  • “Privacy/Security: Contracting for Privacy and Security” will tackle issues to address when contracting with vendors who have access to confidential information.  Nate Steed and Norbert Kugele will co-present.
  • “Records Information Management: Off-the-Record Discussion on How to Identify and Respond to Data Preservation Triggering Events,” which will feature in-house legal representatives discussing common problem areas and how to handle high-risk issues. Yelton will also moderate this panel.

The symposium is a complimentary program for ACC members and guests of Warner.  The program is available for continuing legal education credits for International Association of Privacy Professionals. For more information or to register, contact Sharon Sprague at 616.752.2326 or  Register online at
