Warner Attorney James Liggins Jr. Helps Struggling Small Businesses in West Michigan through Southwest Michigan First

Warner Senior Counsel James Liggins Jr. serves on the board of directors for Southwest Michigan First, a nonprofit designed to assist companies in growing jobs in the local Kalamazoo community through a number of collaborative services. In this article from Newschannel 3, anchor Lora Painter spoke with Ron Kitchens, the senior partner and chief executive officer of Southwest Michigan First, about the Michigan Small Business Restart program – a $100 million program approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund – to help support struggling small businesses in West Michigan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Michigan Strategic Fund authorized distribution of the funding across 15 local or nonprofit economic development organizations covering all 83 counties in the state. Southwest Michigan First was allocated $7,545,455 to distribute to qualifying small businesses with 50 or fewer employees in the seven-county region it serves.
