On July 1, 2026, the United States decided not to renew the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in its current form. However, the USMCA remains in force, and the Agreement will be subject to an annual review until 2036.
The United States has indicated the three countries will continue to discuss trade deficits. Negotiations with Mexico are set to resume the week of July 20, while negotiations with Canada remain less defined. Despite the continued negotiations, it does not appear they will impact the United States’ position on the USMCA.
The notice of non-renewal of the USMCA does not have an immediate effect on trade, preferential treatment or rules of origin. We will continue to closely monitor the upcoming trade negotiations among the three countries.
