The annual Midwest Trust and Wealth Management Conference, co-hosted by leading bankers associations from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio, is a three-day event featuring prominent speakers, in-depth educational seminars and valuable networking opportunities. This year, four Warner Norcross + Judd LLP attorneys are scheduled to present.
Merica Dobry opens the Oct. 9 program with “Power with Purpose: Understanding the Uniform Power of Attorney Act.” The act promotes consistency and legal recognition across states regarding authority to act on behalf of another in financial and legal matters. Dobry will cover the types of power of attorney under the act, Michigan’s adoption of the law and its key provisions.
David Skidmore, a former chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s Probate and Estate Planning Council, will present a caselaw update addressing recent legal developments affecting estate planning. Skidmore focuses his practice on probate, trust, estate, fiduciary and real property disputes and litigation.
Molly Nicol and Raquel Sportel will jointly present “Lasting Legacies: The Potential Role of Irrevocable Trusts in Estate and Asset Planning.” Their session will cover the key features of irrevocable trusts, including tax benefits and explain their role in estate planning and asset protection. They will outline various types of irrevocable trusts and weigh their advantages and disadvantages.
