How Medicaid Supports Skilled Nursing Care Residents and Their Spouses

In the most recent Warner Medicaid Moments vlog, attorney Catherine Jacobs discusses how Medicaid can help cover a portion of skilled nursing care costs. She breaks down the types of care and out-of-pocket costs for skilled nursing care.

For example, the average daily rate for skilled nursing care in West Michigan is $400, which totals $144,000 a year. Catherine digs into the staggering numbers and how Medicaid can help cover a significant portion of these costs.

Catherine also explains the protections in place for married couples, including how a spouse’s cost of living is considered when determining whether some or all of the applicant’s income can be contributed to the spouse still living at home in order to help them continue to cover their monthly expenses.

Watch the video below and stay tuned for future videos highlighting how to qualify for Medicaid programs and prepare for their asset and income tests.
