DHHS Raises Asset Limits

We are pleased to present the first vlog in a new series titled Warner Medicaid Moments, featuring Catherine Jacobs, an estate planning and elder law attorney with Warner Norcross + Judd.

In her inaugural vlog, Catherine discusses Medicaid’s resource allowance, which is the limit on the value of assets a Medicaid applicant can own and still qualify for Medicaid’s long-term care services such as nursing home care or Home and Community-Based Services. For decades, the amount of assets a Medicaid applicant could keep to qualify for assistance was $2,000. However, in Feb. 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services increased this limit to $9,660, opening opportunities for many people to maintain some of their assets.

Catherine explains what this means for those entering Medicaid assistance, and how this will be beneficial when planning for this big life change.
