Warner Norcross + Judd is proud to sponsor the 2026 Employment Law Briefing hosted by the American Society of Employers. The conference will take place Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Trillium in Spring Lake. It is designed to help HR professionals confidently manage employee situations while complying with changing employment laws.
Warner attorneys Robert Dubault and Tiffany VanderKolk will open the conference with the keynote presentation, “Employment Law Update.” During the keynote, they will review key federal and state developments affecting employers. Topics will include anti-DEI executive orders, proposed EEO-1 reporting changes and new independent contractor and joint employment rules.
Additionally, Dubault and VanderKolk will examine emerging state regulations involving artificial intelligence, pay transparency and protections against LGBTQ discrimination. Federal enforcement priorities have also shifted, creating new questions for employers. Therefore, the presentation will help attendees understand the current compliance landscape and prepare for changes ahead.
Following the keynote, VanderKolk will present the plenary session “Are My Handbooks Compliant?” The National Labor Relations Board continues to influence how employers draft and enforce workplace policies. Meanwhile, changing state laws have prompted many organizations to review their handbooks and employment agreements more frequently.
VanderKolk will examine social media policies, confidentiality provisions and at-will employment disclaimers. She will also discuss noncompete agreements and nondisclosure agreements under current federal guidance and applicable state laws. Attendees will learn which policies face increased scrutiny and how employers can update their workplace documents.
More broadly, the 2026 Employment Law Briefing will address the day-to-day relationship between employees and employers. Other sessions will cover employee relations, ADA and FMLA compliance, benefits administration, performance issues, retaliation, investigations and terminations. The conference will also provide opportunities to connect with HR professionals and employment attorneys from across Michigan.
Warner’s Labor and Employment attorneys regularly counsel employers on workplace compliance, policy development and employment disputes.
