The West Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association held its Supreme Court Review and Preview Program on Nov. 13 at noon.

This annual event features civil and criminal panelists presenting on notable decisions from the last term, including criminal practitioners on both the prosecution and defense side. Charlie Quigg, a partner with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, presented civil decisions, while Jennifer McManus of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and James Fisher of the Federal Defender Office presented criminal decisions.

Quigg’s presentation showcased key statistics from the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court term, providing insights into the justices’ voting patterns and highlighting the successes and setbacks in the term's most impactful cases. He also delved into specific case law, exploring how recent rulings set new precedents across various disciplines, from corporate and technology to health care and environmental regulation. Quigg also offered a preview of notable cases on the Supreme Court’s 2024 docket, discussing the potential new standards these rulings could establish across key areas of law.
