Warner Norcross + Judd LLP today welcomed Thomas D. Smanik as its new director of business development and marketing.
Smanik brings more than 30 years of professional experience to his new role with the firm, including 15 years in the legal services industry. Working with the firm’s 230-plus attorneys practicing in more than 40 industries and practice groups, Smanik will work to build the brand of the firm, identify new business opportunities and develop client growth strategies across the firm’s eight-office footprint in Michigan.

Prior to joining Warner, Smanik served as a chief business development officer for McGlinchey Stafford, PLLC, a full-service law firm with 180 attorneys in 14 offices in 11 states and Washington, D.C. During his tenure there, he created new marketing and business development initiatives to support practice areas, launched sales coaching programs, enhanced client feedback programs, expanded use of competitive intelligence tools and oversaw all marketing, advertising, social media and public initiatives.
Smanik also served as chief marketing officer for Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP, an Ohio-based law firm with offices in four states. He spent nearly a decade leading marketing initiatives in the consulting industry as well, first for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and then for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, which is now EY. Rounding out his professional service experience were positions with environmental and energy consulting practices in the Midwest.
Active professionally, Smanik is a member of the Legal Marketing Association and has chaired committees and served on panels for conferences. He is a past member of the Association of Legal Administrators, Sales and Marketing Executives of Cleveland, Information Technology Services Marketing Association and past president of the Professional Services Marketing Association.
He has volunteered extensively during his tenure in Cleveland for music, parenting, food bank and housing programs, as well as serving on the Westlake School District Board of Education and as chair of the schools’ Citizens Advisory Committee.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he now resides in Kentwood with his wife, Tammy.
