The law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP has received the first Catalyst Award from Grand Rapids Civic Theatre as part of its inaugural set of Sponsor Recognition Awards.
The Grand Rapids-based law firm was recognized by Civic for “inspiring strategic changes and organizational growth.” A longtime partner of the community theatre, Warner served as a catalyst in guiding Civic Theatre to “move forward in creating programming and initiatives that will enable our audience, volunteers and school to reflect the greater diversity within the Grand Rapids community.”
“We were surprised and honored to receive this recognition from Civic Theatre, which we count among our strong community partners,” said Diversity Partner Rodney Martin. “The Civic has been amazing in its commitment in expanding its outreach to include under-represented people in our community. Warner is gratified to play a role in that with our sponsorship and in the planning for programming around their productions.
Warner has been a strong supporter of Civic Theatre for decades, with many partners serving as directors and officers on its board. Over the past 10, the law firm has sponsored 15 plays that address issues of diversity and inclusion in order to reach a more diverse audience. In the 2017-18 season, Warner will sponsor “All the Way,” a play about Lyndon Johnson and his efforts to pass the Civil Rights Act after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
