Warner Partner to Star in New York Lyric Opera Production

West Michigan Soprano Madelaine Lane to Play Donna Anna in Don Giovanni

Warner Norcross + Judd partner and soprano Madelaine Lane will perform the role of Donna Anna in New York Lyric Opera’s production of Don Giovanni on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The performance, which is Lane’s second time appearing with the New York Lyric Opera, will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Marc A. Scorca Hall at the National Opera Center. Last May, Lane made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall singing the Countess in the famous Sull’aria, also known as Letter Duet, from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. She originally debuted this role in Grand Rapids with the West Michigan Opera Project.

A two-act opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Don Giovanni follows the exploits of a young Spanish nobleman. Lane will portray the central figure Donna Anna, the daughter of the Commendatore and an attempted conquest of Don Giovanni.

“I was incredibly honored to be invited back to the New York Lyric Opera for this production,” Lane said. “Donna Anna is a complicated figure who spends much of the opera experiencing and processing the shock and pain of losing her father.  Bringing this complex woman to life is a wonderful opportunity.”

A partner with the law firm of Warner , Lane is a litigator who focuses on white-collar criminal defense. She represents both corporate and individual clients who face compliance violations and criminal charges.

“I feel most alive when I’m in front of people – it’s what attracted me to both a career in law and opera,” Lane said. “Being a trial lawyer is almost like performing in an opera – you must study hard, know your role and play it well.”

After launching her legal career in 2007, Lane returned to music as a way of expressing her creative side. Her first major operatic experience was with Opera Grand Rapids and its production of Madama Butterfly, where she sang the role of Cousin. Soon after, she debuted as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème with the Kent Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lane continues to regularly appear with the West Michigan Opera Project, Opera Grand Rapids and in venues throughout West Michigan. During the summer of 2016, made her international debut at Sankt Goar International Music Festival, held in the Rhineland, Germany. In previous seasons, Lane appeared at the Savannah VOICE Festival as a Sherrill Milnes Studio Artist.  She is a student of Nicholas Loren.
