Warner Attorneys Defend First Amendment in Bloomfield Township Suit

An article in today's Birmingham Bloomfield Eagle discusses a lawsuit filed by Bloomfield Township's Supervisor Leo Savoie and Treasurer Brian Kepes against Nextdoor, a social media site, and two township residents, claiming the site has allowed its message board to become a platform of misinformation and bullying.

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP Partners Brian D. Wassom and Matthew T. Nelson are representing the two township residents who were specifically named in the lawsuit as leaders of an effort to "bully and attack users." Wassom describes the case as one of the most offensive to the First Amendment he's seen in more than 20 years practicing in this area of law.

“I’m not sure how any lawyer can look at this complaint and say it can stand up to scrutiny," Wassom said in the article. “The First Amendment is meant to encourage robust debate of a political issue.”
