Reflections on 2022 – A Year of Uncertainty

As we wrap up another very busy year, the Private Client and Family Office group is planning for 2023 and looking back over 2022. We always enjoy this opportunity to pause and remember the interesting and innovative projects we have handled and to delight in the goals, family development and peace of mind we have helped you achieve.

We also reflect on the overall growth of our practice – the new team members we gained and the professional development and recognition we are so honored to have earned, including rankings from local, national and international organizations such as ChambersBest Lawyers® and Super Lawyers.

Thankfully, we were able to meet with many of our clients in person again this past year, and we truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with you face-to-face, catch up on the family members and their activities, and especially to see the pictures of the new babies, weddings and family get-togethers. We also enjoyed helping you plan in-person family meetings and attending those meetings to provide support and education for the family.

Although 2022 was another year of tax uncertainty for our clients, it did not have the same intensity or disruptive and conflicting tax proposals that we saw in 2021. This provided more time to evaluate planning needs and gave our team an opportunity to help clients complete thoughtful and flexible planning before any substantive tax changes occurred. And it allowed us to help clients focus on goals in other areas, such as designing philanthropy plans, strengthening family governance systems, developing family wealth education, creating planning for the family office and family business, and evaluating the need for a family office or private trust company.

As in past years, we have provided blog posts on topics and legislation that impact our high net worth clients. We hope that the information we shared kept you informed through this year’s uncertain economic and legislative environment and provided food for thought as you worked toward your family’s legacy, wealth and charitable goals.

We know that last year was challenging for many, but we hope that it also brought you a chance to get together with family and friends and develop at least a partial sense of normalcy again. We have certainly appreciated connecting with you in person when possible.

The Private Client and Family Office group thanks you for the opportunity to serve you in 2022, and we wish you the very best for this new year.
