Warner Norcross + Judd LLP attorneys Mark Harder and Christian Meyer will serve as panelists for Western Michigan Estate Planning Counsel’s Smooth Transitions: Structuring Michigan Cottage Ownership for the Next Generation, a program designed for advisors, fiduciaries and families seeking to preserve multigenerational access to family cottages.
The program will explore how Michigan’s property tax “uncapping” rules intersect with trusts, limited liability companies and ownership structures. Attendees will gain practical insight into strategies that can help minimize tax exposure, manage long-term holding costs and reduce the risk of intra-family conflict while maintaining family relationships.
The event will be held at the Richard M. DeVos Center, 401 Fulton St. W., in Grand Rapids, and will include networking opportunities before and after the presentation.
Harder, of counsel in Warner’s Private Client and Family Office Practice, advises clients nationally on complex estate planning matters. He chaired the committee that drafted the Michigan Trust Code and continues to update the reporter’s commentary annually.
Meyer, a partner in Warner’s Real Estate Practice, counsels clients on real estate, zoning and property tax matters. He previously served as a gubernatorial appointee on the Michigan Electronic Recording Commission and is active in the firm’s pro bono leadership.
