Mandice McAllister, the inclusion and retention manager with Warner Norcross + Judd, has been named a finalist in the law category for Crain’s Grand Rapids Business Newsmaker of the Year for 2024.
The annual awards highlight the top news stories of the previous year. McAllister was recognized for her leadership role in organizing the first West Michigan Black Legal Summit, bringing together lawyers, judges, law students and legal professionals for educational sessions and networking opportunities.
McAllister and finalists in all 16 categories will be recognized during a breakfast on Thursday, March 6 at Amway Grand Plaza, where the top Newsmaker of the Year will be named.
The West Michigan Black Legal Summit provided an opportunity for the Black legal community to unite, learn and reflect on a variety of issues. McAllister led planning for the summit, convening a committee of regional Black attorneys and legal professionals, identifying speakers and topics, securing the keynote, managing invitations to the event, promoting the summit with the media and social media, encouraging attendance, hosting the event at Warner and following up with attendees.
Additionally, under McAllister’s leadership, the firm earned Mansfield Certification for 2023-24 from Diversity Lab for its commitment to diversity in hiring and advancement practices. McAllister, along with a taskforce inside Warner, worked directly with representatives from Diversity Lab throughout the certification process to track and evaluate appointments, elections, promotions and other critical activities that impact the pipeline of diverse candidates.
