Warner Norcross + Judd LLP attorney and former Managing Partner John D. Tully has been named the recipient of the 2019 Justice Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award was presented to Tully, who continues to serve as a partner emeritus, at the recent Grand Rapids Bar and Justice Foundation holiday reception. It recognizes individuals who, through their time, talent and resources, exemplify a commitment to the principles of improving the administration of justice, educating the public about core democratic values and promoting legal services to the disadvantaged.
Tully served as Warner’s third managing partner between 1998 and 2001. As a partner in West Michigan’s largest law firm, he concentrated his practice in general litigation for 36 years, which included significant environmental, construction and school desegregation litigation.
In addition to this award, Tully has been listed in Best Lawyers in America, recognized as a Michigan Super Lawyer and named a life member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference.
Tully is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, where he served on the Judicial Qualifications Committee and Judicial Campaign Ethics Panel. He is also a former president of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
During his time at Warner, he was active professionally and in the community. Tully is a past president of Opera Grand Rapids, former chairman of St. Mary’s Hospital and former executive board member of The Right Place Program.
Tully earned his law degree from the University of Michigan and his bachelor of arts degree cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. He currently lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, Cheryl.
