Crain’s Detroit Names Warner One of the “Cool Places to Work”

With on-site professional coaching, free education and fitness programs, veggie Wednesdays and corporate-sponsored events for employees and their families, Warner Norcross + Judd LLP has once again been named as a Crain’s Detroit Business Cool Places to Work.

For the sixth time, Crain’s Detroit Business has recognized the firm as one of the “Cool Places to Work” for large employers. Warner was selected for its commitment to work-life balance, its workplace flexibility and its excellent compensation and benefits package. Additional factors included its wellness programs and coaching, its focus on fundraisers and engaging contests, and its employee recognition and appreciation programs.

Warner is one of the largest law firms in Michigan with more than 220 attorneys practicing in eight offices. A full-service law firm, Warner attorneys work in 11 industry groups and more than three-dozen practice areas that cover virtually every aspect of law.

“This accomplishment is especially significant as this recognition is dependent on employee feedback,” said Douglas A. Dozeman, managing partner for Warner. “Our mission is to provide the best client service possible, and we understand that to provide exceptional service, your team must feel valued and empowered.

“We work hard to create a workplace that fosters collaboration and teamwork, provides challenging professional opportunities and ensures work-life balance. Warner is again honored to be recognized by Crain’s Detroit as one of Michigan’s Cool Places to Work.”

Some factors that go into making Warner a cool place to work include:

  • Sponsored fundraisers and contests to spark creativity and competitiveness
  • Free or discounted tickets for local family entertainment or sporting events
  • Free food in break rooms, including bagels, fruit, granola and healthy snacks
  • On-site health coach and nutritionist
  • On-site fitness classes such as cardio kickboxing and yoga
  • On-site biofeedback sessions to help teach employees how to better self-regulate stress
  • Paid time off for community service and volunteer work
  • Family-friendly benefits, such as adoption assistance, lactation facilities and eldercare assistance

Companies seeking consideration were administered two surveys. The first one asked company leadership about policies, practices and demographics. The second survey went to employees, and the data from that was analyzed by the Best Companies Group to determine the “Cool Places to Work” recognition.

Employers benefit by making the list in that they receive feedback from the survey completed by employees, which allows them to see areas where they are exceling, as well as areas for improvement. Additionally, winners will receive benchmarking materials to see how they stack up against other companies.

Crain’s Detroit published the full list of those recognized on Aug. 20. You can see the firm’s profile here.
