Charles E. Burpee Elected Chair of Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Board

Charles E. Burpee, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, has been elected chair of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Board of Directors.

Burpee will serve a two-year term as chair of the board of Civic Theatre, one of the largest community theaters in the country. Launched in 1925, Civic Theatre now produces nine mainstage productions each year with the help of more than 800 talented volunteers. The award-winning Civic School of Theatre Arts provides training to more than 1,600 students annually, successfully preparing them to participate in local community theater and inspiring them to professional careers in all areas of theatre production.

Burpee concentrates his practice in patent, trademark and copyright law and works with some of the world’s most innovative companies and individuals. He is a former chair of the firm’s Technology and Intellectual Property group and has been recognized among the Best Lawyers in America and Leading Lawyers in Michigan.

Active professionally and in the community, Burpee has served on the board of directors for Civic Theatre since 2008, spending the past two years as president-elect. He also is past chair of the boards of Clark Retirement Community, Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan and the Michigan Technology Council West Michigan Chapter. He also has served on the boards of the Gerald R. Ford Council of Boy Scouts of America and the East Grand Rapids School Foundation.
