Attorney Spotlight – Beth O’Laughlin

What is the primary focus of your practice?

I focus my practice on trust and estate planning, succession planning, and wealth preservation.  I enjoy the challenge of coordinating sophisticated planning that is both effective and accessible for our clients. Trust and estate planning is a special area of law that fosters a uniquely personal relationship between attorney and client. We are able to guide our clients through some of the most difficult transitions of their lives, easing complications and providing the comfort that comes with experienced and knowledgeable counsel.

Did you always want to be an attorney?

I’ll admit, I didn’t grow up wanting to be an attorney. I knew I wanted a career that challenged me and allowed me to work closely with others, but I had a hard time pegging down exactly what that career might be. Now that I’ve become an estate planner, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found a career that that I truly enjoy and that seems to be the perfect fit for my skill set.

When did you decide to join Warner?

I joined Warner almost six years ago. I was practicing at a relatively small firm in my hometown of Midland, when Warner opened an office locally. I was immediately interested in joining Warner, being familiar with the strength of its attorneys. I knew that joining their ranks would provide me with an opportunity to be part of the most sophisticated estate planning practice in the state.

What do you think people would be surprised to learn about you?

When I decided to start running 15 years ago, the first race I ran was a marathon. Since then I’ve run dozens of races, finding distance running to be the best way to clear my head and relieve the stress of a busy day.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I have three young sons – a four-year-old and twin two-year-olds – so I try to soak up as much time with them as possible when I’m not working. They are endlessly energetic, and they do a remarkable job of keeping me busy!

Congratulations to Beth who became a Warner partner in January!
