Applications Now Open for $20,000 Diversity Scholarship and 1L Summer 2023 Employment Opportunity

As part of the firm’s commitment to promoting diversity in the legal profession, Warner is offering a $20,000 scholarship and summer associate position to an eligible first-year law student.

The scholarship will be awarded to a first-year law student in good standing who shares Warner’s passion and commitment to diversity initiatives. Students are asked to share a written personal statement, undergraduate and law school transcripts and a current resume for consideration.

Applications, which are available here, are being accepted through February 12, 2023, with the winner being notified around February 17. In addition to a $20,000 scholarship, the winner will work in one of Warner’s nine offices throughout Michigan participating in our ten-week summer associate program beginning on May 15 and ending on July 18.

“We know that helping fund the cost of law school is only part of the equation,” said Mark Wassink, managing partner of Warner. “By offering a summer associate position with Warner to a student who demonstrates commitment and contributions to diversity, we are trying to address the ultimate goal for most law students – gaining valuable experience working with the law firm for the summer, which hopefully leads to a full-time job with Warner after law school.”

To be eligible for consideration, applicants may identify by race, as LGBTQIA+ or with a disability. Applications will be reviewed by members of the firm’s Diversity, Equity + Inclusion Action Committee and Summer Associate Committee. The $20,000 scholarship will be paid over two semesters and is contingent upon the student completing a 2023 summer associate position at the firm and being in good standing and enrolled in law school at the time of payment.

This $20,000 scholarship and employment opportunity is the newest in a series of scholarships and programs designed to promote diversity in the legal profession. To date, Warner has contributed more than $280,000 to a number of initiatives, including scholarships for law students, paralegals and legal secretaries, as well as study courses to prepare for law school entrance exams.
