Max Koehler is a staff attorney with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP who focuses their practice on estate planning for queer, transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals and couples. This growing niche of clientele supplements their portfolio in the Trusts and Estates Practice Group – and brings a more diverse and inclusive focus to the type of law Max practices.

They began participating in Warner’s diversity, equity and inclusion activities upon joining the firm in 2018 – taking part in the firm’s diversity book club and Mosaic employee resource group as an ally, in addition to various town hall meetings. Max personally identifies as transmasculine nonbinary and came out to the firm in 2021. Shortly thereafter, they started providing guidance in various firm lunch and learns on inclusive pronoun use. Max has been heavily involved in developing the vision for Pride at Warner: to ensure a safe, supportive and welcoming work environment that affirms the sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression of every employee. They participate in the Own Your Gender group through the Grand Rapids Pride Center, are a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, and are merchandise chair for the Great Lakes Region of that organization.
