Economic incentives are most effective when the details of a project and the priorities of a community are working toward the same outcome. I draw on my experience in state and local economic development to help clients understand their options, navigate the process and move promising projects forward.
Mackenzie Miller helps businesses, developers, property owners and municipalities identify and pursue economic development incentives that support real estate investment and community revitalization. Her experience includes brownfield redevelopment, tax increment financing, tax abatements, grants and other public financing strategies. Having worked within both municipal and state economic development organizations, Mackenzie understands the requirements and practical considerations that can shape a project’s eligibility, timing and path forward.
Before joining Warner, Mackenzie served as an economic development coordinator and senior project manager for the City of Grand Rapids. She worked with private development interests to evaluate proposed projects, managed matters involving the city’s Brownfield Redevelopment Program and Local Brownfield Revolving Fund, and administered tax abatement and tax increment financing programs. She also evaluated policy and program changes related to real estate development initiatives and coordinated with city departments and partner agencies.
Mackenzie previously held community development roles with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. There, she worked with developers, local governments, lenders and other stakeholders on the planning and financing of housing, commercial and mixed-use developments. Her work included analyzing project financials, helping structure incentive strategies and advising communities on brownfield financing, development authorities, tax abatements and other economic development tools.
Mackenzie earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Saint Mary’s College and is pursuing a Master of Public Administration from Grand Valley State University.
