Warner Norcross & Judd offers summer associates a unique opportunity to work in and experience as many different practice areas as possible during the summer—especially those areas in which the student has an interest. This “liberal arts” approach extends to the first year of practice at Warner Norcross. Our associates choose their own practice area six months to one year after joining the firm. Thanks to our “Job Jar” assignment system for summer associates and first year attorneys, a Warner Norcross associate is able to make an informed decision that reflects his or her interests, strengths, work habits and personality.
We recruit our summer associates on a nationwide basis from dozens of law schools. Like most of our attorneys, our summer associates had alternative offers from bigger firms in bigger cities. They came here for the quality of our practice and client base, for our policies that foster collegiality and teamwork, because they wanted to have a healthy work-life balance, and for the exceptional quality of life in Michigan. That combination is difficult—if not impossible—to find in a big city law firm. Being a summer associate also gives you a leg up on your competition: we do the majority of our new associate hiring from our summer clerkship program.
