Warner’s Statement on Patrick Lyoya

Warner joins our nation and the Grand Rapids community in being devastated by the tragic death of Patrick Lyoya. Patrick was 26 years old. He was a beloved son, father and brother. A proud Congolese refugee. An avid soccer player. He was a beautiful human being. His life mattered. We grieve with the Lyoya family over this loss.

Sadly, we have been here before. We have grieved for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Casey Goodson, Daunte Wright, Ma’khia Bryant, Elijah McClain and so many more. This tragedy hits particularly close to home, and for that reason, it hurts all the more.

We unequivocally affirm that Black lives matter. We acknowledge the inherent worthiness and preciousness of our Black firm members, friends, family, clients and community members. Every person in our community deserves to live a full life free from violence and discrimination.

As members of the legal profession, we renew our commitment to lend our time, talents and resources toward the work of transformation in our community. Together, we must make greater progress towards racial justice, systemic change and equity.

We stand in solidarity with our community.

Sincerely,
Warner Norcross + Judd
