The Role of Michigan Municipalities in Marijuana Businesses

In this issue of Warner’s Legal News for the Cannabis Industry, attorney Bob Hendricks provides insight into the authority that municipalities have over cannabis businesses. Michigan has over 1,700 municipalities, each with the legal right to allow, prohibit and control cannabis businesses in their jurisdictions. For cannabis business owners, working with municipalities can sometimes be unpredictable and frustrating. Preferential treatment and bias, application issues, real estate and zoning requirements, among other factors, can all determine whether or not a cannabis business can set up operations in that jurisdiction. Knowing the players and the rules can have a significant role in success or failure. View the video to learn more about navigating municipality relationships.
