Roquia Draper advocates on behalf of her clients in both family law and in business contract disputes. Roquia also has unique experience in representing professional clients in complex family law matters involving executive compensation packages, business valuations and complex asset division. Her primary focus on domestic relations allows her to impact her clients’ lives during a very difficult time by being their strongest advocate while providing reasonably aggressive but measured advice. Case in point: Roquia successfully tried a case of first impression in the state of Michigan involving the enforcement of a religious marriage contract in a divorce proceeding. After winning in the trial court, Roquia likewise successfully argued at the Michigan Court of Appeals and won. Her tenacity and success resulted in establishing precedent in the state of Michigan upholding religious marriage contracts as enforceable contracts under Michigan law.
In addition to her strong advocacy skills, Roquia is also skilled in successfully negotiating and resolving matters through alternative dispute resolution. “Divorce is one of the most stressful, life-altering events in a person’s life,” she says. “I am solution-oriented, and I work with clients to find creative, reasonable solutions tailored to their individual life and needs. My goal in any case is to be your advocate, provide you with thoughtful guidance and direction to the next stage of your life.”
In addition to her family law practice, Roquia solves business dilemmas concerning contractual disputes with the same measured aggressiveness she pursues for her family law clients. Roquia won summary disposition for a business client on the issues of liability and damages on a breach of contract claim, and successfully collected judgment for the business client. “It saves my clients from spending any more valuable time and money on litigation and instead allows them to focus on growing their business.”
