Nick Colvin is an experienced government and economic development attorney with a background working in local, state and federal government. He specializes in impact investing and municipal finance, with a focus on infrastructure, governmental and nonprofit finance securities offerings, real estate development and public-private partnership transactions. His securities work includes reporting and compliance under the ’34 Act and capital markets offerings under the ’33 Act and ’34 Act.

Nick previously served as the general counsel and assistant city treasurer in the Office of the City of Chicago Treasurer, serving as the chief legal officer for a citywide elected official tasked with investing more than $7 billion of public funds. He oversaw compliance with federal, state and local laws related to investment and management of city funds, and other applicable regulations, and was also instrumental in the incorporation and subsequent administration of the Chicago Community Catalyst Fund — a $100 million, first-of-its-kind city-seeded investment fund tasked with investing in economic development projects in communities with historical disinvestment.

Additionally, Nick worked in the White House Counsel’s office, where he was part of the West Wing team responsible for advising President Barack Obama, White House senior officials and federal agencies on litigation, development of legislative and administrative proposals, as well as investigations and presidential nominations. Earlier in his career, Nick was the personal aide to then-Senator Obama in the United States Senate and a special assistant to Mrs. Michelle Obama during the 2008 Obama for America presidential campaign.

Nick has also been appointed as a special assistant attorney general for the State of Michigan and served as special counsel to the governor on a number of high profile matters prior to his time at Warner.

Nick is actively involved in many civic and nonprofit causes and organizations, and enjoys finding ways to help the communities where he lives and works while serving sophisticated and complex clients.

He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Harvard Law School. Nick is licensed to practice law in both Michigan and Illinois.
