Warner's Byl Defends Brownfield Tax Credits

Warner Norcross partner John Byl, who chairs the Michigan Chapter of the National Brownfield Association (NBA) and is a member of the NBA board, tells Crain's Detroit Business reporter Amy Lane that brownfield tax credits have been "critical to the success of . . . urban redevelopment." Byl, who has met with members of Gov. Snyder's administrative staff to advocate for the credits, notes that the private capital investment is at least 10 times the amount of a brownfield credit received. He said that the numbers speak for themselves: Over the last decade, $409.3 million in tax credits have resulted in nearly $4.1 billion in investment, creating more than 30,000 new jobs and more than $120 million in new annual property tax revenue.
