Warner Norcross Re-Elects Managing Partner for Third Leadership Term

Douglas E. Wagner has been re-elected Managing Partner and will serve a third term at the helm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP.

Wagner, who concentrates his practice in litigation, will serve another two-year term as Managing Partner of the firm, which has more than 220 attorneys in six offices across the state. As Managing Partner and chair of the firm’s Management Committee, Wagner guides the strategic direction and growth of Warner Norcross, which is the fifth largest law firm in the state – and the largest headquartered in West Michigan.

Under Wagner's leadership, the firm has:

  • Added 86 new attorneys over the past four years. More than 30 percent of these are lateral hires who joined Warner Norcross as partners or senior counsel to strengthen specific practice areas.
  • Joined the ranks for the AmLaw200, a list of America's top 200 law firms.
  • Been selected as one of the top 20 mid-sized firms by The National Law Journal.
  • Expanded its Detroit presence by nearly doubling the footprint of its Southfield office and opening a second office in Sterling Heights.
  • Added new practice areas to better serve client needs, including International Dispute Resolution, Business Start Ups and Early Round Financing, Records Information Management, Corporate Sustainability and Climate and Economic Development Incentives.
  • Made a strong commitment to sustainability, appointing a manager to oversee the area and committing resources to move toward a more "green" approach to doing business.
  • Received awards for growth, diversity and workplace excellence from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Crain's Detroit Business, The Detroit Free Press and others.

Wagner joined Warner Norcross in 1977 and is the past chair of the Litigation Practice Group. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Litigation Council of America, American Bar Foundation and the Michigan State Bar Foundation. His litigation expertise has been recognized with several awards, including being named a "Litigation Star" in Michigan by Benchmark Litigation, as one of the top 100 Michigan Super Lawyers and one of The Best Lawyers in America.

Active professionally and within the community, Wagner serves on the board of directors of The Right Place Program and St. John’s Children's Home, both in Grand Rapids. He also serves on the West Michigan Honorary Committee of Inforum. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association and a past president of the chapter for the Western District of Michigan. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Wagner teaches and lectures widely on trial techniques and advocacy issues for organizations such as the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Emory University School of Law and the Hillman Advocacy Program.

Wagner received his doctor of jurisprudence magna cum laude from Wayne State University Law School and holds an undergraduate degree from Albion College.
