Charles E. McCallum, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been named chair-elect of the American Bar Association's Section of Business Law.
McCallum, who concentrates his practice in corporate and international business law, will become chair of the 45,000-member section in August 2007. McCallum has long been actively involved with the ABA, having served as chair of its Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility and as a member of its Task Force on Corporate Responsibility and its Commission on Multijurisdictional Practice.
In the ABA Section of Business Law, he has served in numerous officer and leadership positions, including as a member of the governing Council and as chair of the Committee on Professional Conduct and the Committee on Law Firms. He recently completed a term as editor-in-chief of The Business Lawyer, the Section's peer-reviewed journal written by and for business law practitioners.
McCallum has been recognized in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America and is listed by Chambers USA as one of the leading attorneys in Michigan for his international experience in corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. He is a member of the American Law Institute, a fellow of the American College of Law Practice Management, and a past chair of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
Long active in the West Michigan community, McCallum is a past chair of Priority Health, Butterworth Hospital, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Rapids Area Transit Authority and a past president of the Grand Rapids Art Museum. He is also a past chair of the Michigan District Export Council, and is currently Executive Vice Chair of Terralex, a network of 150 independent law firms with 14,000 attorneys in more than 100 countries and 40 states.
McCallum, who served for six years as managing partner of Warner Norcross, holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University. He was a Fulbright Scholar in the Manchester (England) University Faculty of Law.
