Warner Norcross Attorney Appointed to Justice Initiatives Committee of the Michigan State Bar

Weldon Schwartz, an attorney with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been appointed to the Justice Initiatives Planning Workgroup for the State Bar of Michigan.

Schwartz, who concentrates his practice on securities and family law, will serve a one-year term on the committee, which advises the Bar's Board of Commissioners on how to assure that that justice system is strong, equal and fair in its application to all Michigan citizens. The workgroup will cover efforts such as legal aid, equal access, pro bono and fund-raising, with the focus of providing high-quality legal services to everyone, especially the poor.

Schwartz actively volunteers his time to pro bono efforts related to children's issues, including adoptions, guardianships and parental terminations. He is a member of the Family Law and Children's Law sections of the State Bar, as well as the Business Law and State Regulation of Securities Committee. He serves on the Advisory Committee for the Legal Assistance Center. He is a member of the American Bar Association, serving in the Business Law and Litigation sections and the Children's Law Committee. He is also a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Prior to joining Warner Norcross, Schwartz worked for the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he reviewed the activities of broker-dealers and investment advisers as a supervisor and special counsel. He lectures regularly on securities-related matters at conferences and is also a certified public accountant, or CPA, in Michigan.
