Warner Attorney Mark Harder Named to Michigan State Bar Section Leadership Post

Mark K. Harder, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been named vice chair of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Michigan State Bar.

Harder, who concentrates his practice in trusts and estates law, will serve a one-year term as vice chair. He recently completed a term as secretary. The section works to enhance and improve the practice and administration of probate and estate planning law through a variety of vehicles, including advising the legislature and courts on pending matters, educational outreach to other members of the Bar and the public, publication of a journal, sponsoring seminars and related activities.

Harder was instrumental in drafting the Michigan Trust Code, which was passed into law in 2009 and governs how trusts are established and administered in the state. The Code both modernizes and fills important gaps in the previous law.

Active both personally and professionally, Harder is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and serves on its State Laws Committee. He also is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Harder is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers. He was also selected Trust and Estates Lawyer of the Year in the Grand Rapids area in 2010 by Best Lawyers.

He has held leadership and board positions with numerous organizations, including the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Women in Transition. He currently serves as treasurer for the Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises and is a member of the Family Firm Institute.
