Warner’s TIP Chair discusses patent reform with MiBiz

Chuck Burpee, a partner at Warner Norcross and chair of the firm’s Technology & Intellectual Property group, recently discussed the new America Invents Act with MiBiz. Burpee noted that the legislation changes American from first-to-file system, not a first-to-invent – a move that more closely aligns the United States with the rest of the world when it comes to patents. Burpee told MiBiz, “It’s going to lead to filing more patent applications on incremental changes and probably a need to keep closer tabs on what a competitor is doing.
