Three Warner Norcross Partners Recognized in International Who’s Who of Environment Lawyers

Three partners with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP have been honored for their expertise in environmental law.

John V. Byl, Michael L. Robinson and Eugene E. Smary have all been selected for inclusion in The International Who’s Who of Environment Lawyers 2007. Warner Norcross is the only law firm in Michigan to have multiple representatives on the list.

The annual publication, now in its third year, identifies the preeminent attorneys in environmental law by conducting extensive interviews with private practice lawyers and general counsel who have expertise in the field. Smary was also recognized in the 2006 edition.

All three concentrate their practices in environmental law and are recognized in The Best Lawyers in America. Byl chairs the Firm’s Environmental Practice Group, which is among the largest in the Midwest and recognized by Best Lawyers as the top-ranked environmental practice in the state. He also chairs the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan; Robinson and Smary are past chairs.

Byl focuses on brownfield redevelopment and financing, air compliance and permits and related regulatory matters. He is active in a number of professional associations, serving on the board of directors for the West Michigan Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association. Byl lectures and writes frequently on environmental topics.

Robinson focuses his practice on environmental litigation, water, solid and hazardous waste and related matters. He chairs the State Bar of Michigan’s Environmental Law Section and its Solid and Hazardous Waste Committee, and is active in other professional associations as well. Robinson writes frequently on environmental topics, serving as the editor of Michigan Environmental Statutes & Regulations.

Smary focuses on water, compliance, legislative and regulatory policy and related issues. Active professionally and within the community, he is the past chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environmental, Energy and Resources. Smary has also served in this capacity on the state and local levels. He lectures frequently throughout North America on environmental law issues.
