Mark K. Harder Serves as Conference Chair for Annual Meeting of Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises

Mark K. Harder, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, recently served as chair of the annual conference for Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises.

Harder, who works extensively with family business as part of practice in trusts and estates law, was responsible for planning the two-day conference, which was held recently in Asheville, N.C. The AFHE conference drew more than 60 attorneys who represent family-owned businesses.

Sessions included family governance best practices, balancing entrepreneurial risk with fiduciary duties, generational transfer of family wealth, transitioning smaller family enterprises and case studies. AFHE is an independent, non-profit association of attorneys practicing in the areas of corporate, litigation, taxation, and trusts and estates who provide multi-disciplinary legal counsel to privately held enterprises, their owner-managers and family members.

Harder joined AFHE in 1995 and was appointed to its board of directors in 2005. He will also chair AFHE’s 2008 conference, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas.

Active both personally and professionally, Harder is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin and the State Bar of Michigan, where he serves on the Council of the Probate and Estate Planning Section and chairs the Council’s Amicus Curiae and Michigan Trust Code committees. He has held leadership and board positions with numerous organizations, including the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Women in Transition.
