Leadership Grand Rapids honored three-term mayor John Logie as its Distinguished Community Trustee during a reception on February 24.
Logie, an attorney with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, was recognized for his service to Grand Rapids during 12 years in the city's top leadership spot. Leadership Grand Rapids made the presentation during its 14th annual reception and fundraising event, which was held at DeVos Place.
"We are so pleased that so many West Michigan residents joined us for an evening to honor one of our community's strongest and longest-serving leaders, Mayor John Logie," said Kevin Stotts, executive director of Leadership Grand Rapids. "As someone who celebrated diversity, community and connectivity during his administration, John epitomizes the characteristics of the Distinguished Community Trustee and we were pleased to recognize his efforts."
Leadership Grand Rapids is a program of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce that develops and engages an effective, diverse network of trustee-leaders who serve for the betterment of the community. In 1994, Leadership Grand Rapids awarded its first Distinguished Community Trustee Award to the Rev. George Heartwell, who now serves as mayor of Grand Rapids.
This year's recipient, John Logie, served as mayor of Grand Rapids from 1991 to 2003. He joined Warner Norcross in 1969 and concentrates his practice in real estate litigation and probate litigation.
Long active in the community and in professional organizations, he has served in a number of leadership and board positions in and beyond Grand Rapids, including George Washington University, Grand Valley State University Foundation, Workforce Investment Board, Historical Society of Michigan, American Cancer Society, Goodwill Industries, Michigan Society of Hospital Attorneys and many others. During his tenure at the Firm, he also served as general counsel to a number of West Michigan hospitals.
Logie has also received numerous professional accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, an Emeritus Award from Aquinas College and an honorary Doctor of Public Service from Ferris State University. Additionally, he has been recognized as one of the The Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Politics and other organizations.
Logie served in the U.S. Navy for six years before teaching at the U.S. Naval Academy. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a master's degree from George Washington University and juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.
He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.
