John J. Bursch, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, was recently elected to the executive committee of the American Bar Association's Council of Appellate Lawyers.
Bursch, who chairs the Firm's Appellate Practice Group, will serve a two-year term on the board. He has also been reappointed to his position as chair of the publications committee. The Council of Appellate Lawyers is the first and only national appellate bench-bar organization in the country.
Bursch concentrates his practice in appellate and business litigation. A former law clerk for the Hon. James B. Loken, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, Bursch speaks and writes on a variety of legal issues. He routinely assists other lawyers in preparing motions and briefs in the Michigan Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.
Bursch currently serves on the board of directors of the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan and is also a past board member of the Hugh Michael Beahan Foundation and a past chair of the St. John Vianney Worship Commission. He is recognized in Who's Who in America 2007.
Bursch holds two bachelor's degrees from the Lee Honors College of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where he graduated summa cum laude. He received his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as executive note and comment editor for the Minnesota Law Review.
