An Evidence-based Selection Process for Equitable Hiring in West Michigan

With today’s COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis, major changes in the U.S. workplaces are underway. Employers seeking to hire employees will be met by a large population of unemployed workers, making this an opportune time to rethink hiring practices and establish more productive and equitable workplaces going forward.

 
This article from Brookings highlights HireReach, a collaborative initiative between West Michigan Works! and Talent 2025. HireReach is a three-year program that recruits, trains and advises employers to hire entry-level and middle-skill talent using an evidence-based selection process. The model focuses on the accuracy of candidate selection and mitigates biases in the hiring process by using a data-driven approach to assess candidates fairly and objectively.
 
This article mentions the employers in West Michigan, including Warner Norcross + Judd, who participate in the HireReach program, and the steps these organizations have taken to implement the resources and best practices to improve upon their workplace hiring practices. Warner is also a member of Talent 2025.
