Administrative Orders: Court declines to drop requirement that copies of unpublished cases be submitted with appellate briefs

The Michigan Supreme Court declined to adopt a proposed change to MCR 7.212 and 7.215. The Court considered doing away with the requirement that a party citing an unpublished case in an appellate brief append a copy of the unpublished decisions to the brief. The proposed rule is here. The rule change was opposed by the Court of Appeals Rules Committee, the Michigan Judges Association, and several incarcerated individuals.

The Court also rejected a change to MCR 2.002 that would have permitted courts to deny indigency status to vexatious filers.
