Aaron Lindstrom is an associate in the Grand Rapids office, practicing in the firm's litigation and appellate litigation practice groups. Aaron has represented clients at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal court on a wide range of commercial disputes, including breach-of-contract, class-action, constitutional, environmental, healthcare, insurance, and real-estate matters.

In the past five years, Aaron has:

  • Participated in eight U.S. Supreme Court matters, including successfully petitioning the Court to grant certiorari over an opposition by the Solicitor General of the United States and then playing substantial role in the merits briefing that successfully persuaded the Supreme Court to reverse the decision below, and drafting an amici curiae brief in support of a successful cert petition;
  • Drafted briefs in appeals before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits and the Michigan Court of Appeals, including successfully petitioning the Fifth Circuit to grant a discretionary, interlocutory appeal; and
  • Played a substantial role in defending against a series of class actions pending in state and federal courts arising from insurance disputes.

Aaron recently served as a co-chair of the Supreme Court subcommittee of the ABA's Commercial and Business Litigation Committee. He is also a regular contributor to the Appellate Practice Group's One Court of Justice Blog, which tracks the decisions of Michigan's appellate courts.

Aaron joined the firm from the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, having already served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jeffrey S. Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Before attending law school, Mr. Lindstrom served for five years as an armor officer in the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army.

  • Drafted successful petition for interlocutory appeal and played a substantial role in the successful merits briefing in In re Katrina Canal Breaches Consolidated Litigation, 495 F.3d 191 (5th Cir. 2007) (holding for client that insurance policy language was unambiguous)
  • Drafted amici curiae brief in religious-liberties case that targeted one aspect of the Ninth Circuit's ruling in Stormans, Inc. v. Selecky, 589 F.3d 1109 (9th Cir. 2009), and that resulted in the panel granting rehearing, vacating its prior opinion, and issuing a new opinion that removed the challenged rule
  • Represented health care company in response to nationwide class action
