Biography


Matt Goska has a passion for all things technical that drives his practice of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, patent evaluation and portfolio management. With a background in electrical engineering, Matt uses his technical prowess to assist in successful new product launches that avoid the perils of competitors’ patents. He has a sincere interest in new technology and enjoys working in a variety of technical fields, including magnetic resonance imaging, border gateway protocol, hearing aids, avionics and medical devices, to name a few. Matt plays a valuable role in patent litigation by providing legal research, case analysis and motion drafting. He has been listed among the Best Lawyers in America and as a Leading Lawyer in Michigan.

  • Due diligence reviews for a multi billion dollar acquisition
  • Managed the international patent portfolios of several international companies, including both a hearing aid semiconductor manufacturer and an alternator controller and leadframe manufacturer
  • Wrote and prosecuted more than 100 patent applications, both in the U.S. and in foreign countries, including patents relating to avionics, material handling, semiconductors, Internet technology, medical equipment and business methods
  • Experienced in successful defense of European patent oppositions
  • Counseled both purchasing clients and selling clients regarding intellectual property due diligence
  • Provided litigation support in patent lawsuits involving automatic guided vehicles and inertial reference units for aircraft, as well as several trademark and copyright lawsuits
  • More than a decade of experience in conducting freedom-to-operate evaluations, infringement evaluations and client counseling
  • Performed patent work for multiple Fortune 500 companies, including Stryker, L3 Communications and Magna Donnelly
  • Represented a Michigan medical device company in the intellectual property due diligence for the acquisition of a Illinois preventative care products (~$2 billion)
  • Represented a Michigan medical device in the intellectual property due diligence for the acquisition of a Canadian bed manufacturer (~$50-$70 million)
  • Represented a Michigan medical device company in the intellectual property due diligence for the merger with a New York mattress manufacturer (~$50-$70 million)
  • Represented a Michigan medical device company in the intellectual property due diligence for the acquisition of a Utah based EMS product designer and manufacturer (~$5-10 million)
  • Represented a Michigan medical device company in the intellectual property due diligence reviews of multiple medical device targets
