Biography

John Cooper has been litigating civil disputes throughout Michigan for more than thirty years, leading dozens of trials in state and federal courts. His clients have included individuals, businesses, colleges, physicians and hospitals, and John has tried hundreds of cases involving product liability, personal injury, commercial disputes and medical malpractice. John serves as the Executive Partner of our Kalamazoo office and enjoys being an advocate for Warner and the Kalamazoo community. “Litigation is complex, costly and extremely stressful. When my clients find themselves in a lawsuit, they know my goal is not to scorch the earth but instead to resolve their dispute as quickly, efficiently and fairly as possible.”

  • Represented Olsten Corporation in a multimillion-dollar personal injury claim and obtained a defense verdict after a seven-week jury trial
  • Represented Suburban Mechanical Company and obtained summary disposition of a shareholder claim against a corporation
  • Represented the Diocese of Kalamazoo and obtained summary disposition in a multimillion-dollar personal injury case that was upheld on appeal
  • Represented a local employer and obtained summary disposition of a multimillion -dollar burn claim that was upheld on appeal
  • Represented Clancy Realtors® and obtained a verdict against a land seller that was upheld on appeal
  • Represented V&K, LLC and obtained a verdict for property owner in a riparian rights case which was upheld on appeal
  • Represented Harrison Packing Company and obtained a substantial settlement against its property insurer
  • Successfully defended area physicians in medical malpractice claims
  • Successfully defended the area’s largest hospital for more than thirty years
  • Obtained a seven figure settlement on behalf of an LLC owner who was sued by his fellow member
