Biography

Chad Kleinheksel’s practice focuses on the procurement and enforcement of patents, as well as the practical assessment of potential and existing patent infringement risks. Chad is registered to practice with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition, Chad structures licenses, royalty agreements and advises organizations in connection with the review and transfer of intellectual property in mergers and acquisitions. He works alongside small and mid-sized businesses to international corporations, helping each define and carry out patent objectives to meet their unique vision and budget. Developing strong client relationships is his passion. He believes that understanding the client and the nature of their business is the first step in building lasting relationships. Chad is the chair of the firm’s Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group.

  • Develops global intellectual property protection and enforcement strategy for multi-national corporations, including practical, cost-effective filing strategies, invention disclosure and incentive programs, global prosecution and enforcement
  • Extensive experience in assisting global clients with freedom to operate opinions, including frequent early involvement with engineers and developers to strategically avoid patent infringement
  • Involvement in many corporate transactions involving intellectual property, including buyer or seller due diligence, licensing agreements, joint venture and development agreements and supply agreements
  • Services clients' needs in all aspects of patent law, including opinions on patentability and preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • Assists clients during the development of products by providing developers and engineers with early guidance on infringement risks
  • Enforces the patent rights of clients of all sizes, from individuals and small businesses to large multinational corporations
  • Drafts and negotiates agreements for the transfer of technology and intellectual property
  • Assists academic clients in the development of policies for intellectual property ownership and transfer
  • Services clients' needs on various trademark matters, including trademark clearance searches and obtaining trademark registrations
