Warner Norcross Welcomes Experienced T&E Attorney David M. Thoms

David M. Thoms has joined Warner Norcross & Judd LLP as senior counsel.
Thoms brings more than 35 years of experience in areas including trusts and estates law, closely held businesses, corporate law and economic incentives. He concentrates his practice on charitable, gift and estate planning, wealth transfer, family business succession planning and non-profit organizations. He also works extensively on economic development incentives, commercial real estate finance and tax planning. He will practice in the firm’s Southfield and Kalamazoo offices.
Prior to joining Warner Norcross, Thoms was a principal with Miller Canfield P.L.C.
Thoms is an active member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the State Bar of New York, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He serves as director and secretary/treasurer of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit, Inc.
He is a member of the board of directors of the American Society of the French Academic Palms and Greenleaf Trust.  Thoms is a member of the American Planning Association, the Michigan Association of Planners, the Planned Giving Roundtable of Detroit and the Estate Planning Council of New York City. Thoms teaches, lectures and publishes work frequently.
Active in the arts and education, Thoms serves the Alliance Française de Grosse Pointe as president and on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association as vice chairman.  He is treasurer of the board of the Visiting Committee for European Sculpture and Decorative Arts of the Detroit Institute of Arts and serves on the Tannahill Planned Giving Advisory Committee. 
Thoms also serves on the boards of Madonna University, the Henry M. Seldon Charitable Trust, the Salvation Army of Metropolitan Detroit, the Ford Health System Planned Giving Advisory Committee, the Gibraltar-American Council, the French-American Foundation the Federation des Alliances Françaises-USA and the Hillwood Mason International Committee.
Thoms has been named to Best Lawyers in America and was recognized as the 2015 Detroit Non-Profit/Charities Law Lawyer of the Year.  He is a Michigan Super Lawyer and has been recognized as a Top Lawyer by DBusiness.
Thoms holds an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College, a master of urban planning from Wayne State University, a doctor of jurisprudence from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a master of laws in taxation from Wayne State University Law School.
