Warner Norcross Partner Sarah Riley Howard Honored by Michigan Lawyers Weekly

12/8/2011

Michigan Lawyers Weekly has honored Sarah Riley Howard, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, as one of the 20 “Up & Coming Lawyers” for 2011.

Howard, who chairs the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense practice, was recognized in the annual edition that acknowledges the best of Michigan’s young attorneys. To be selected for the honor, Michigan Lawyers Weekly looks for young attorneys who have established a name for themselves earlier in their careers and are “poised for even greater accomplishments in the future.”

Howard joined Warner Norcross after clerking with the Hon. Richard Alan Enslen in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Michigan. She has been instrumental in establishing and growing the White Collar Criminal Defense practice, which provides pre-charge preventative services, such as internal investigations and compliance audits, as well as litigation defense for false claims, anti-kickback, consumer protection, securities regulation, environmental protection and other substantive areas of the law.

Michigan Super Lawyers named Howard a Rising Star in 2010 and 2011. She was a nominee for the ATHENA Young Professional Award and a member of the Inforum Executive Leadership Program, both in 2011.

She has taken a leadership role within the legal community, serving as the past chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. She also serves on the executive board of the West Michigan Federal Bar Association. Additionally, she is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, State Bar of Michigan and American Health Lawyers Association.

An active volunteer and mentor, Howard has served as an instructor with the Grand Rapids Public Schools’ Mock Trial Program. During her career, she has spent approximately 10 percent of her time providing pro bono services, particularly in prisoner civil rights cases and litigation appeals.

Howard holds a bachelor of arts from Western Michigan University summa cum laude and a doctor of jurisprudence cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School.
